Him | Her, Part 3

February 26th, 2017 by Anthony Trask

Pastor Anthony talks about practical things for parents to consider as well as practical ways to disciple your kids to love Jesus. Some of you might not have children but this is an awesome opportunity to disciple children you know.

10 Practical Things for New Parents To Consider (and “Old Parents” who want to get back on track)

1.Put God First And Your Spouse Second

2.Don’t Hole-Yourself-Up In The House [Gen 2:18]

3.Don’t Abandon Community [Heb 10:25]

4.Don’t Stop Doing Things With Your Friends

5.Build Relationships With Older Parents

6.Go Out On Dates Often and Get Away

7.Get Baby Sitters

8.Have Sacred Space

9.Go Do Things On Your Own.

10.Take Turns With Your Spouse.

7 Practical Ways To Disciple Your Kids To Love Jesus

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

1. Make A Declaration Over Your Household

Joshua 24:15

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

2.Model Your Walk With Christ In Front Of Your Kids

James 1:22

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

3. Read The Bible To And With Your Kids From An Early Age

Romans 10:17

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

4. Pray Over Them, With Them, And Expect Them To Pray

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

5. Take Them To Church

Hebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

6. Teach Them To Tithe

Malachi 3:10

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

7. Talk To Them

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Him | Her, Part 2

February 19th, 2017 by Anthony Trask

Pastor Anthony continues our Him | Her series with a look at our Heavenly Father, and his attributes which we can appreciate, learn from, and emulate with our children.

How The Bible Portrays God The Father, That We Can Emulate With Our Children:

  • The Father Loves Us-1 John 3:1-3

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

  • He Is To Be Known Intimately-Luke 10:22

All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

  • The Father Provides For Us-Matthew 6:25-34

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

  • The Father Affirms His Son-Matthew 3:16-17

And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

  • The Father  Gives Good Gifts-Matthew 7:9-11

Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

  • The Father Is Merciful-Luke 6:36

Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

  • The Father Cares For Us-Matthew 10:29-31

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

  • The Father Protects Us-Matthew 18:10-14

“See that you don’t look down on one of these little ones. Here is what I tell you. Their angels in heaven can go at any time to see my Father who is in heaven.

“What do you think? Suppose a man owns 100 sheep and one of them wanders away. Won’t he leave the 99 sheep on the hills? Won’t he go and look for the one that wandered off? What I’m about to tell you is true. If he finds that sheep, he is happier about the one than about the 99 that didn’t wander off. It is the same with your Father in heaven. He does not want any of these little ones to be lost.

  • The Father Comforts Us-1 Corinthians 1:3-4

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. I always thank God for you. I thank him because of the grace he has given to you who belong to Christ Jesus.

  • The Father Rewards Us-Matthew 6:3-4

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Him | Her, Part 1

February 12th, 2017 by Anthony Trask

Pastor Anthony launches our final installment of Him | Her with a personal testimony to show how important fatherhood is.

Click image below to download small group notes:

  • 1 Corinthians 4:14-17I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you, then, be imitators of me. That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church.
  • Psalm 68:5Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.
  • Genesis 1:27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
